EA SPORTS Active 5K Challenge… Getting my rear in gear! (closed)
I found out about the EA SPORTS Active 5K Challenge on Twitter earlier this month.
Basically, the purpose is to take your exercise routine to the next level by training for a 5K using EA SPORTS Active for the Wii. No specific race, just one in your community that’s being held between October 17th and November 15th of this year.
I’ve walked my share of 5Ks, but never run one, so I decided to sign up and make that my goal. The question was which one? I’ve done the Turkey Trot in DC before, but that’s not until Thanksgiving, so I had to search for something sooner. When I saw the list of races in the DC Metro area, “Get Your Rear in Gear” stuck out to me because of its clever name. When I clicked on its homepage for more information, I got it. It’s an event run by the Colon Cancer Coalition to raise funds and increase awareness about this terrible disease.
I teared up. This was meant to be. My aunt Annie lost her fight with colon cancer just 6 weeks ago.
S
o I registered for the run and also signed up to become an EA SPORTS Active 5K Challenge Community Leader. As a Community Leader, I’ll be leading a group of challengers through the 5K, keep them motivated, host training sessions, and write about my experience. We’ll all get team t-shirts to wear during the run, and I’ll receive a complimentary copy of the new More Workouts program (coming out in November), as a thank you. I named my team Joie de Vivre, in memory of my aunt, who was so full of life!
Check out the list of Community Leaders and see if there’s a 5K being organized in your city! Email the leader in your area and then sign up: easportsactive5kchallenge.eventbrite.com to officially be included in the challenge. If you’d like to donate to my fundraising efforts, I’d greatly appreciate it! You can do so by visiting my donation page.
I’m traveling this week, so I’ll officially start training on Saturday. That will give me 6 weeks to get in running shape! Now all I need is a few good team members to join me. There’s a training schedule on the EA SPORTS Active website to use as a guide with a 4-week program for those that want to run/walk the 5K and another for those that would like to run the entire distance (me!). Each workout is about 20-30 minutes in length and alternates between workouts on the Wii and jogs/walks outside. To make it a 6-week program, I’ve added one week of easy intensity workouts and an extra week of medium intensity. I’ve already loaded the workout into my Wii. It includes a little bit of cardio and a whole lot of lower body exercises. The great thing is that I can totally customize it if there’s something that’s not working for me, or if I find it to be too easy. That’s what I love about EA SPORTS Active. That and the fact that it’s helped me lose 20 pounds since August! If you don’t have a Wii already, now might be the right time to get your hands on a console, since the price just dropped by $50 yesterday.
I have a copy of EA SPORTS Active to give away so that one of my readers can join me on this challenge! To enter, please leave a relevant comment. I’d love a little motivation.

I love the games from ea sports, so cool.
I’m sorry about your aunt. My aunt is currently fighting the same battle, and aside from huge stoma problems, is doing okay so far, knock on wood!
Kudos to you for a great spirit.
I’d love to have this because I stay at home with 4 kids and just getting out to walk is hard because I’m constantly interrupted. My sister (she has no children) has been challenging me to get into shape and this would be perfect.
This would be great to have. The doc says I need to exercise to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough time in the day for me to go to a gym. I would love to have some way to do fun exercises at home. thanks for the chance.

Good Luck! I always try to be good and remember to use the Wii Fit. My mother would love this though!
This is a great contest. I like how the Wii has products that are geared to getting people into better shape. Well, good luck to you.
I love my Wii, I have been losing weight and finally lost enough to get on my Wii fit board !! I would love to have the Active now to help with the exercise.
this is such a awesome giveaway. I want to exercise more so i can get in shape before i get pregnant! thanks!
This game sounds like a great way to exercise
This is wonderful. We’ve had a Wii for a while but never a fitness program for it…i’m a former high school cross country team captain and this would be great to get back close to being in that kind of shape again.
enter me
Colon cancer has caused two deaths in my family. Scary that I take after those 2 people more than anyone else, so I am diligent in getting my every other year colonoscopies and watching for warning signs of colon problems.
Sorry for the loss of your aunt. Keep up the good work with your weight loss!
I’ve been trying to get in shape, it gets hard doing it on your own. We just got a Wii, so this will be perfect for me!!!

I’d like this for motivation to get a Wii. This would help me get motivated for sure! I could also give it to my brother and go over there and use it. He’s got one.

here’s a little motivation: if you were thin as a teen, you are more likely to develop osteoporosis. Start weight training in your twenties and don’t stop or you could get diagnosed in your early thirties like I did…
…I’m kinda lazy about exercising, but this program would definately get me motivated, thanks for the giveaway!
I think we could all use a little motivation … some fun ways to exercise always help too!
Me and my sisters completed a colon caner awareness run about a month ago we I to am trying to lose weight as colon cancer runs in our family
This program looks like a good way to start getting in shape, but your group sounds like a better way to ensure follow-thru.
Whoa, what a great giveaway! I’ve wanted to try this for so long. Good luck with your training!

I’m a fan on FB (Cherries Lacey).
This would be fun to have
One of my resolutions this year was to run a 5k – I keep saying I am going to start the couch to 5k program – I need to stop being lazy!
I’m always looking for a new challenge. I have lost over seventy pounds through changing my diet and exercise and have a goal of thirty more. I can do it!
I’m horrible at getting exercise, but it’s easier when it’s like a game – I bet with this system you’re going to get in shape really quick and have fun doing it too!

yes please
I wanna get fit. Since I had my twins i’ve lost all the weight but lost tone.
So sorry for your loss!
To help motivate yourself, be sure to reward your little accomplishments as well as your big goals. Did you work out every day a week? Reward! Six whole weeks? Reward! Run the 5K? Reward! Keep it interesting, too!
I’m so sorry about the loss of your aunt but I think you did a great thing in her honor! You should be proud, and proud of your weight loss too. If I hope I win so I can have some weight loss to be proud of!
