Children realize that part of the fun of play food is not only pretending to eat it, but also the process of preparing it! Melissa & Doug play food sets let kids do just that.

HOW IT WORKS:

Take the cookie “dough” out of the tube, and cut into slices with the wooden knife. The 12 wooden slices stay together with Velcro, so it makes for a realistic cutting sensation.
Place them on the cookie sheet to bake. Put on the oven mitt, and take the cookie sheet out when they’re ready.
Let them “cool”, choose from 12 toppings (also attached with Velcro), and decorate.
Remove the cookies from the cookie sheet using the spatula. The utensils are true-to-life and the perfect size for little hands.

Kids can then serve the cookies to their guests or set up a bakery and sells their ‘goods’, as my daughter does. She even pulls out her cash register. I see many a bake sale in our future!

In addition to learning about the process of baking, this play food set also teaches kids about colors, patterns, matching, and sorting, and helps with fine motor skills and eye/hand coordination. When playtime is over, the cookies store in the dough tube, which is made out of durable cardboard.
